Over the past year we have built and tested over 30 e-bikes using the Bafang 250w Mid drive motor. We are mountain bike specialists and have spent the last year developing and testing the Bafang motor in various bike models until we arrived with a range of Voodoo bikes that work very well with the motor conversion regards to chain line, motor compatibility and ride quality. The mountain bikes we convert are not cheap entry level bikes nor do we fob you off with batteries with a low out put. Our custom designed 14.6 ah battery is rated at 5256 watt hours 36v x 14.6 ah = 5256 watt hours giving our bikes the same range as most bikes costing significantly more. Don’t forget our bikes come as standard with a throttle which is legal on a converted bike and turn a mountain bike into a lightweight electric motorcycle. With its compact size of 100mm x 230mm and weighing just 2.5KG you can comfortably carry an additional battery in a back pack to double your range or have one at work and one at home. On offer is our Voodoo Maji 18 demo bike which was fitted with a new motor with less than 250 miles since build. The Maji is he same bike as the Hoodoo with slight tweaks for a woman (softer seat and narrower handle bars) and comes in black which really suits an ebike conversion. The Maji’s are very rare and this is the only conversion we know of. We have swapped the seat and the 70 cm bars can be swapped free of charge for a 72 cm s et if required. This makes a perfect e-bike with a Suntour XCR32 fork which is a tough and durable coil fork where weight does not matter nearly as much as on a non-powered bike and the 26 x 2.35 Maxxis tyres offer a comfortable ride with plenty of grip. The 14.6 ah 36v battery comprises class A Samsumg/LG 18650 cells and is rated at approx 500 watt hours. This will typically give a minimum range of 30 miles using the throttle at max power with little or no pedal input. The range under normal use is 40-50 miles but can be extended by conservative use of the assistance. Riding in power level one is great for touring where maximum range is required, this could be 60 miles, two is advised for road work and a speed of 13-16 mph can be maintained without much effort. Pedaling hard in levelwill achieve 20-25 on the flat. The throttle will provide a boost like a turbo in any power level and is extremely useful when climbing hills or in headwind as it can be used in bursts to rest your legs so you can maximise the exercise benefit like mini work outs. On a typical ride I will personally cover 30 miles in maximum power level 3 with short bursts of pedal input and or throttle to achieve an average speed of 20-25 mph giving a great cardio work out. If you are commuting you can use the throtttle on its own so you arrive at work fresh having not pedaled at all. The throttle feature is not available on new factory bikes but is allowed on conversions and is extremely beneficial if you have a minor disability, knee injury or are unfit as you can keep up with traffic and other fitter cyclists. The rate of effort you put in down to you but your fitness will improve just as much or more on a ebike compared to a conventional bicycle because you will want to ride greater distances and will be able to get gentle exercise for a longer period. You will also find a ebike immeasurably greater fun. We advise that chain and cassette are new on every bike and are expected to last 1000 miles depending on use, with these bikes you can pull away from stand still using the throttle only in 3/4/5 gear comfortably as 1/2nd are crawler gears for hills. Delivered fast and free tracked and insured via Parcel Force 24. Our E-Bike conversion which has all the specifications and power of the factory bikes but also has a throttle. These converted bikes typically weigh 2-3 KG less than a factory full suspension E-Bike. On paper the specification of the brakes, front fork and battery capacity are almost identical and like all E- bikes they have a 250w motor. With 9 gears available you will find that pulling away on the flat in 3rd is quite normal with first for crawling up steep hills and matched to the 44t front chain ring (the smallest available from Bafang) will allow for speeds up to 25 mph on the flat. 30 mile range on Throttle means you can ride it as a lightweight-electric motorcycle. Riding a pedalec or pedal assisted bike will allow you to ride faster and further than you would be able to on your own. The Bafang conversion is easily fitted to almost any bike and can be swapped over if you decide to change bikes something you cant do with the Shimano/Bosch powered bikes, to comply with legislation the bikes we convert must have been’previously used on the road’. Having experienced all three Pedelecs myself I can say there is very little difference in how they feel and operate, the only difference being that the Shimano and Bosch are torque sensing and respond to the effort you put in when pedaling where the Bafang is speed sensitive but in the real world there is very little to choose between them and the Bafang motor has the throttle which for me would make it a winner. Riding a pedal assisted bike will make you feel like you have bionic legs but you will still have to pedal to cope with hills and head winds, you can vary the assistance over 3 power levels. Ultimately you will want to ride more often as it is fun, you will ride further with the same amount of input and you will still be getting fitter as the bike requires you to pedal although the amount of assistance is up to you with 3 power levels and the throttle to boost the power. A fresh battery from our UK supplier who custom makes them for us with Class A 18650 Lithium Ion cells is ordered and any new parts that are required. We also offer fitting of great value accessories such as a rear carrier that can be combined with a Mughugger rear and front mudguards. Where possible we arrange to deliver the bike ourselves to hand it over personally. This saves on packaging, re-assembly and means you have a ready to ride bike.
